Co-Host Checklist

Thank you for agreeing to be a guest co-host on The Projection Booth. Before recording, there are a few things that you should know...

The Movie(s)

If you need a video file version of the movie(s) being discussed, please let Mike know at impossiblefunky@gmail.com. If you have any problems playing the file(s), please let Mike know ASAP. We've found that the best software for playing most video files is VideoLAN.

Occasionally there are movies that compliment the work at hand: remakes, sequels, "spirital sequels", "answer films", etc. Mike can share these with you as well. If you have movies in mind that will add to the discussion, please bring those up.

All of these can be shared either via links or by sharing a Dropbox folder. Dropbox is easiest. If you have a dropbox account and can't handle downloading the files let me know and I'll send you a link where you can grab them via a web interface.

Research

Whenever possible, essays, articles, audio commentaries, extras, interviews, reviews, and/or books about the films or filmmaker should be consulted. If it's possible to share these, the will be provided (again, either via links or dropbox).

Outline

Before recording, an outline will be shared with you via Google Docs. If you have a gmail address, please provide it ASAP. The outline is mostly there to make sure no "lines" are forgotten for the intro and outtro of the show. We try to have structure to the show while not making it rigid. Some people freak out when they see the outline as if they're being a script to memorize. That is not the case. The discussion is free-form and relaxed.

Recording

Recording will take place a week or more before the episode is scheduled to be available. Recordings usually happen during the evening (ET) either on Sunday or during the week. If it makes it easier to remember, a Google Calendar invite will be sent.

When the recording takes place, please go into a quiet place where there are no screaming children, barking dogs, or meowing cats.

The most important thing apart from the discussion is the quality of the audio. Zoom with a good internet connection and a microphone/head phones is preferred but phone is accepatable. A land line sounds better than a cell phone. Zoom (or Skype) via a cell phone usually sounds better than just a cell signal.

If you really want to go the extra mile, invest in at least a cheap headset / mic. The LifeChat headset/mic is highly recommended. It's usually less than $20 from Amazon. Additionally, if you can record your own audio directly via a program like Audacity (PC) or Garage Band (Mac), that would be fantastic.

With a quiet place, Zoom, and a headset/mic, you're all set.

When the Episode Goes Live

Whene the episode goes live, please share it with your friends. You'd be surprised how many people come onto the show and then never share it. Maybe they hate the episode. If you don't hate the episode, please let people know about it.
